new sculpted paper works in the show

The new works in this current show are experimental, and are on the interface between painting/sculpture, sculpture /installation. I wanted to explore the illusion of space further and push the support from a 2 dimensional flat surface to one that entered into the real physical space of the viewer.  All the pieces in this show are of paper.

The Elemental 1-4 series, were created using ink, graphite and mulberry paper. Dimensions: 135x69x15cm,96x68x7cm and 134x74x15cm
Cosmos 1-3, pigment, graphite, sterling silver leaf, mulberry paper, 45x45x7cm
The Alchemy 1-xx suite consist of a variety of mediums including pigment, 24 carat gold leaf, ochre, semi precious stones, graphite, ink, mulberry paper, 34×15.5x2cm

art residency in john robinson studio in rural bendigo

Former Melbourne gallery director Evi Robinson, invited me as artist in residence to the John Robinson Studio in Shelbourne, central Victoria. This gave me a fabulous space, large enough to expand and develop my works with paper to create wall size sculpted paper works. For five months, I would travel and spend 4 days a week working on my new body of work Elemental; time, space, presence for my upcoming solo show at Langford120 Gallery.

At times the temperature would soar to mid 40’s under the tin roof,  but the peace and quiet of the surrounds allowed me to immerse myself totally in my work. The lack of internet connectivity was both a blessing and a challenge and I would walk down the road, among the paddocks in the mornings and at sunset to check my messages.
