The Marriot Hotel in Beijing, China now has a large pastel drawing by Dawn Csutoros in their public space. The commission was completed early September and is being installed this month.Dawn has been accepted as artist in residence at the well known Pickled Art Centre in Beijing this year. She will begin her residency on the 31st of October, continuing on until the 12th December. China is undergoing tremendous changes in economic and social life. Chinese people are living in a period that is politically more open than ever since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Along with the preparations for the 2008 Olympics, these dramatic changes have a large impact on Chinese culture and daily life.
Dawn will be immersing herself and responding to the richness, beauty and diversity of the Chinese culture. She has studied Mandarin for two years, practiced tai chi for twenty years, is a lover of taoist philosophy and Lao Tzu’s Tao te Ching and is looking forward to developing skills and creating a new body of work for exhibition early December.
